To provide a complete service related to laboratory diagnosis of immune-mediated diseases, the Immunopathology Section operates in seven functional units that also include support activity for the study of these diseases:
Among the unique features of the Section, we highlight the Autoinflammatory Diseases Unit, which is the only one in Spain that provides comprehensive diagnosis of these diseases. Therefore, the Unit acts as a de facto reference center in Spain for the diagnosis of these conditions. In the Cancer Immunotherapy Unit, we have developed immunization approaches for use in melanoma, and there is an ongoing project for the treatment of colon cancer.
The Section continuously incorporates novel diagnostic strategies in virtually all the units (eg, allergen microarrays, ELISPOT for antituberculosis response, and TLR function for immunodeficiencies), in order to offer diagnostic support in immune-mediated diseases.
