The Pharmacology Laboratory professionals are leaders in the evaluation and standardization of new trends in combined pharmacological monitoring based on pharmacokinetic, pharmacogenetic, and pharmacodynamic parameters, to provide safer, more personalized, and effective treatments.
We excel in immunosuppression pharmacology and are the reference center for other hospitals and for multicenter studies sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry analyzing new immunosuppressive drugs. We also determine pharmacokinetic profiles in studies of novel antitumor, antiretroviral, and antifungal drugs. Our laboratory has been certified by the Regional Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) for the analysis of drugs and drug metabolites under the BPL standard (PBLI/0412/010CAT).
In the Toxicology Laboratory, we determine drugs of abuse, trace elements, and psychotropic drugs (antidepressives, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, and mood stabilizers) and offer confirmatory analysis by mass spectrometry and a screening service for other centers.
The Laboratory also performs other biochemical determinations that require these procedures, such as porphyrins and vitamins.
We are the reference center (European Porphyria Initiative) in the analysis and diagnosis of porphyrins.
The most commonly used analytic methods for these purposes are chromatography (HPLC, GC, HPLC-MS, LC/MS/MS) and atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
