Inborn Errors of Metabolism (Institute of Clinical Biochemistry)

The Institute of Clinical Biochemistry (ICB) was founded in 1969 to contribute to the diagnosis and comprehension of the pathophysiology of hereditary metabolic diseases, and to improve their prevention and treatment. We are a reference center in Spain for diagnosing these conditions and an important center for related research and development.
To carry out this task, we use non-automated general biochemistry methods, molecular biology techniques, chromatography, and mass spectrometry. The neonatal screening activity includes programs for prompt neonatal detection of phenylketonuria, congenital hypothyroidism, and cystic fibrosis, using automated immunoassays.
