Immunohistochemistry involves treating fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections from biopsies of lymph nodes, bone marrow, or other hematopoietic tissues with stains containing enzyme-labeled specific antibodies that make an invisible substrate visible.
The tissue antigen-antibody complex is identified by microscopic examination. It is localized where it has bound to specific molecules present in the tissue under study.
A large battery of monoclonal antibodies is available for these determinations. The tests are conducted in collaboration with the Immunohistochemistry Section.
