New criteria for predicting the risk of developing colon cancer

Dr. Josep Mª Augé, specialist of the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department, and member of the Barcelona Colorectal Cancer Screening Program, has published in Gastroenterology an article where suggests different risk groups to stratify probability for the detection of premalignant or malignant colorectal lesions, in relation to fecal hemoglobin concentration, gender and age of the participants.

This study will help to organize the colonoscopy's waiting lists of participants that test positive for fecal hemoglobin, but also demonstrates that fecal hemoglobin concentration is related to colorectal lesions.
